Personalized learning is the tailoring of teaching methodology, curriculum and learning support to meet the needs and aspirations of individual learners. Each student at the British School of Boston has a personalized learning program that is tailored to meet his or her individual needs. Individual academic targets are set for each student and monitored throughout the year.
Rigorous Assessment
Tracking of student performance and rigorous assessment forms an integral part of each student's personal learning plan at the British School of Boston.
• Each student knows his or her level of attainment and understands what he or she needs to do continuously improve.
• Every teacher is trained to make well founded judgments about student's attainment and knows how to use these judgments to forward plan for each individual student.
• Every parent or guardian is kept well informed of their child's progress, what their child needs to do to improve and how they can support their child in their drive to improve.
Differentiation
All teachers at the British School of Boston are trained to use the multiple intelligences framework to implement learning activities that allow for the different learning styles of each student. This unique approach to personalized learning is unique within the New England education environment.
Cognitive Learning
We understand that the learning process is just as important as the learning outcomes. Lessons are structured so that students actively contribute to the learning process. In addition to the acquisition of knowledge we place great emphasis on investigative skills and the exploration of understanding.
International Benchmarks
The British School of Boston benchmarks academic progress against tested and proven international standards which include IGCSE results, IB results and standardized tests used in the United Kingdom that take place at ages 7, 11 and 14.This helps us to measure student's attainment and allows for seamless transition for students who have joined us from an international setting or for those who will transition into an international setting.
Language Acquisition
The British School of Boston has developed one of the leading Modern Foreign Languages programs in New England with students learning French form age 3 and Spanish form age 7. Students undertake a course of study in both languages until they reach 14.
