Mr. Paul Wiseman O.B.E., M.A.

Paul Wiseman was awarded a B.A. (Hons) in Geography from King’s College/L.S.E. Joint School at the University of London. Always having a view to a career in education, Paul gained a P.G.C.E and an M.A. in Geography in Education, both through the Institute of Education at the University of London.

Throughout a career in education spanning almost four decades, Paul has held teaching and leadership positions in schools in England, Canada, Brunei and Brazil. He was Director of The British School, Rio de Janeiro for eighteen years (1994-2011). During this time the school’s roll increased from 600 students on one site to over 2000 students on three sites and student performance at IGCSE, the International Baccalaureate and university entrance reached very high levels.

Paul was a founding member of the Latin American Heads Conference, a group of over forty heads of schools reflecting British practice across Latin America, and he served as Chair for the first five years. During that time he collaborated in the development of the LAHC School Review and Head’s Professional Appraisal process.

Paul believes strongly in school improvement through self-study and peer evaluation. To that end he has served on, or chaired, Council of International Schools’ Accreditation teams and LAHC Review teams in eleven schools in ten countries.

In 2002, Paul was awarded the OBE for services to education in Brazil. He is married and has a son who was born in 2005.
